Whilst we are still waiting for my pal Arch to put his wig detector into action I will look at some more good rugs. I was going to make today's entry about sportsmen but I have decided to concentrate on one in particular; snooker player Jimmy "The Whirlwind" Wig. He has had some really dreadful rugs over the last 20 years.

So, who did Jimmy get inspiration from? Surely no other snooker player wore a piece?

It is the late Australian snooker star Eddie Charlton with the finest kangaroo hair toupee strapped on. Clearly an inspiration for the up and coming Jimmy White.

Above it is well and truly waving goodbye and Jimmy is quickly starting to look like a cue ball.

Is the last one on straight? It looks as though it is a bit of a tufty toupee.

Time methinks to have a look at the more ridiculous syrups worn by celebs over the years.

We will start with legendary record producer Phil Spector who is now incarcerated in a US State Prison until he is 88 (in 14 years time) when he is eligible for parole!

Spector first donned a rug circa 1963 and was a dedicated follower of fashion/wigs until he got done for murdering the actress Lana Clarkson.

Here is a picture of Spector taken in the mid 60's sporting a reasonable rug. Presumably the cash in his gob was to buy his next collection of pieces?

The last pic is clearly the worst. It looks as though he put his rug on as per normal and then stuck his fingers into the mains socket to get this "great look". I can't understand why the jury would find this man guilty, any look at him would prove he was of sound mind.......

Now, Tony Curtis was a really good actor in his day but he was sadly taking the piss when choosing his headgear.

It looks like a mummified Old English Sheepdog strapped on his head. Very poor choice there Tony. He did ditch the wigs later on as he became ill. At least he passed away with dignity rather than looking like a complete prat.

Actor John Travolta (a confirmed lover of ladies) has been going bald for sometime:

 And then someone must have come up with the idea of drawing his hair on with black marker pen........

Chortle, chortle!

Not great but a darn sight better than the marker pen effort. What next trying some kiddy crayons to achieve that realistic look?

That concludes our look at some of the more laughable hairstyles of the rich and famous apart from one more:

 Is Chuck in his kitchen at home? With that sad look on his face it looks as though he has lost his last roll of toupee tape.

Whilst, Arch Stanton is busy working on a "piece" for the blog I thought after I mentioned Jimmy Old that it was time to have a look at some DJ's and their rugs.

First off, clocking up around 60 years of non stop syrup wearing is dear old Jimmy Old:

Lets have a look at Jimmy in 1953:

The natural hairline has waved goodbye and buggered off south for ever but that didn't deter Jimmy because here is a record sleeve from 1963 and hey presto he has a full head of hair!

 I wonder if the song was an ode to his real hair?

Looking quite obvious in this picture taken in the 70s but not anything as bad as the dead grey squirrel he has strapped on below.

Next on the list is David "Diddy" Hamilton or "Dodgy Hairpiece" as he is known.

Here is Diddy desperately clinging on to what little hair he had left back in the mid 70s:

Love that comb over! In the b/w picture it looks like a shredded wheat stuck on his bald bonce. Time for action thought Diddy:

Here is a fairly recent pic of David with his grey toupee.

No look at vain DJs would be complete without a look at good old Tony Looney who has been in denial since the 80s.

Here is one back in the day when Tone was a big name on Radio 1 and he had all his own hair:

Where is Terry Wigon I hear you ask? Well, we are not convinced he wears a syrup! Maybe, but we think it could well be a comb over!

Right time to finish today's blog entry with a look at Chuck looking like he has accidentally put on his gran's wig!

A wig wearer for the best part of 57 years is old Bill Shatner of 'Star Trek' fame. Time to have a look at "The Shat's" wig collection over the decades. Surely only Jimmy Old AKA Radio DJ Jimmy Young must be a longer term syrup wearer than The Shat? Jimmy Old must be celebrating 6 decades of dedication to his hair.

Looks quite convincing this Star Trek rug although HD TV does it no favours. When Bill fell on relatively hard times in the lean years (the 1970's) his rugs suffered badly. The money clearly wasn't available to purchase convincing rugs after he was reduced from a leading role to guest appearances in TV series and game shows. Just have a look at the selection of less than convincing headgear below:

Oh dear, oh dear! This is a good overview of Bill's tragic toupees from the 70s. Hard to pick which looks the most unconvincing.

By the 80's the Star Trek Movies were box office gold and he had a successful TV series (TJ Toupee) in production. He now had the money to buy better rugs.

Very bouffant! I think The Shat went OTT in the 80s especially as TJ Hooker! I don't Bill ever had natural hair that thick even in his 20s!

The Shat fairly recently with the most realistic rug look since the 60s. Rumoured to be a "hair appliance". Basically an appliance is where a complete hairpiece is stuck on his head, even the little natural hair he has left is apparently shaved off to leave just the sideburns.

There completes a quick overview of the bewigged times of William Shatner.

Time for another laugh at superhero Chuck Norris's hair? I think so.

Arch Stanton has returned from oop north so hopefully will be adding his words of wigdom soon.

Here is early 60's singing star Frankie Avalon:

Or Frankie Avingalaugh with that piece! Look at that hairline for a 73-year-old! He has more "hair" these days than he did back in his 60's "hairday". The style is very much Bill Shatner (1980s rug).

Who is this long term rug wearer circa 1970?

It is Burt Reynolds in a 1970 publicity still from his short-lived TV series 'Dan August'. By this time 35 year-old Burt had been a wig wearer for at least 7 years.

A couple of latter day pics of Burt clearly after having a wig lift, face lift and everything else botoxed. Burt's funniest rug is in the 1987 film 'Malone'. He stars in that film with veteran toupee troubler Cliff Robertson. It really is a hard struggle to work out who has the worst hairpiece.

Cliff sported some really obvious headgear in the 70's, none more obvious than in the Brian de Palma movie 'Obsession'. It seems to have a mind of its own and I kept thinking it was going to come loose during the picture. Who did he think would believe that it was his own hair?

FFS look at it! One of the worst wigs sported by an Oscar winning movie star. Truly, truly awful!
